Origin Energy

Origin Energy’s new “EV Power Up” plan boasts that you can fully charge a Tesla Model Y for less than $5, at their rate of 8c/kWh. Origin’s offer makes use of Enode, which integrates with your car’s battery management system, and instructs the car when to charge, meaning you can use any home charging kit you want.

Currently, Origin EV Power Up supports the following car brands for home charging:

• BMW (i4, i5, i7, iX1, iX2, iX3, iX)
• Mercedes-Benz (EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE [Sedan & SUV], EQS Sedan & SUV])

Powershop

Powershop are another retailer to offer EV focused discounts, with two plans that target specific use cases and habits.

EV Night Saver offers a ‘super’ off-peak rate, between midnight to 4am, currently estimated at around 5c/kWh.

EV Day Saver instead offers completely Free EV Home Charging throughout noon until 2pm every day, for those who have the capability to charge their cars during the day.

Both of these plans are based on usage timeframes, and are therefore able to work with any EV, as long as your property has a smart meter installed.

OVO Energy

OVO Energy’s aptly named ‘The EV Plan’ is one of the best ways to get Free EV Home Charging in Australia. Combining both a ‘super’ off-peak period of completely free $0.00 energy, as well as a discounted EV Charging rate of $0.08/kWh during the first 6 hours of the day, you can reliably ensure your car is topped up and ready for when you’ll need it.

Similarly to Origin, OVO also have their own app functionality to enhance their plan. OVO’s evCONTROL allows their users to connect their EV to their OVO account to optimize and schedule their charging. This feature, available to Tesla, Mini, and BMW customers, means you can forego worrying about alarms to get out of bed and plug in your Tesla and allow the app to start charging automatically during the free or discounted periods.
